On 29 March an agreement was reached on including Bulgaria and Romania in the European Economic Area, and the two countries will benefit from the existing EEA Financial Mechanism. A total €72 million will be channelled under this mechanism to Romanian and Bulgarian projects over the next two years.

In addition, Norway will contribute with €68 million in bilateral cooperation programmes, of which Bulgaria will receive some €20 million while Romania will receive some €48 million.  The bilateral cooperation programmes with the two countries will be administered by Norway.
