The purpose of the Project is the development of environmentally friendly building material using waste from electronic and electric equipment (WEEE), with the overall objective of protecting the environment from harmful substances by developing innovative technologies and procedures in the handling of WEEE. Reference is made to the application, dated 4 July 2008 and all subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Preparatory studies focusing on quantification of plastics waste amounts from WEEE suitable for utilization in building industry; - Comprehensive research on crushed plastic materials characteristics and the plastic waste concrete composites parameters (2 sub-activities); - Experimental study of plastic waste-concrete composites behaviour under different physical-mechanical strains (incl semi scale technological demonstrations - 3 sub-activities); - Monitoring of plastic waste composition, hazardous and ecotoxicological properties, plastic waste, concrete composites and their impacts on the environment and health of population (3 sub-activities); - Project management and publicity activities (including dissemination of scientific results). The Project Promoter is the Institute of Construction and Architecture of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the Technical University in Zvolen, EKORAY Námestovo Company, MBM-STAV Ltd. Námestovo and SINTEF Building and Infrastructure (Norway). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Slovak Government provides at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project cost.
