The purpose of the Project is to complete the development of the facilities at the Institute for High Mountain Biology (IHMB), as well as to conduct research activities on the effects of air pollution and climate change on alpine ecology with the overall objective of contributing to increased knowledge about alpine ecosystems and their protection through strengthening the Institute for High Mountain Biology’s capacity to undertake high quality research and education in alpine biology. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: 1. Purchase and installation of equipment for laboratories for molecular ecology, zoology, microbiology and botany 2. Purchase and installation of air pollution monitoring station 3. Adaptation of attic to educational purposes and purchase and installation of solar system 4. Completing the institute's lecture hall with multimedia equipment 5. Research projects on genetic variation of alpine fauna vertebrates and on effects of air pollution on alpine fauna 6. Purchase of a 4WD truck for field work 7. Purchase and installation of GPS receivers and GIS software 8. Project management and coordination 9. Publicity The Project Promoter is the Zilina Univeristy. The Focal Point shall ensure that the state budget of the Slovak Republic will provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
