Main goal of the Project is to establish a systematic planning and implementing platform for the climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in the City of Košice through the comprehensive Action Plan for mitigation and adaptation. Project objectives are as follows: Mitigating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and Increasing the climate adaptability of the City of Košice.
The objectives will be met through the following Project activities:
- Elaboration of Action Plan for mitigation and adaptation to climate change,
- Municipatity of Košice and the adjacent public spaces - the City Hall (incl. modernization of interior lighting, transition to renewable energy sources, complex thermal insulation of the roof, creation of a green relaxation zone, building a rain garden to replace the impermeable concrete surface,
- Water Garden in the City District of Ťahanovce (cascade of rainwater collecting ponds, elements for infiltration of rainwater from paved areas with a filter unit, building a fountain, installation of two water sprinklers),
- Intergenerational Community Center on the Laborecká 2 Str. (reconstruction of the existing building with aim to reduce energy consumption, building an extensive vegetation green roof, establishment of a rain garden and an underground retention tank ezc.),
- Environmental Center (to be established in the Intergenerational Community Center to raise awareness about climate change and promote environmental responsibility). The Project Partner - The City District of Kosice West, will be responsible for implementation of this activity.
A Donor Project Partner – the City of Oslo is involved in the Project and will basically provide the strategic advisory, transfer of best practices and know-how. The Project is primarily intended for the inhabitants of the City of Košice with special focus on most vulnerable groups of elderly and families with young children as well as pupils and students and local communities.
