The purpose of the Project is to restore the medieval monument of the Butcher’s Fortress in Maramures and expand its facilities, with the overall objective of creating an area dedicated to the preservation of traditional cultural heritage and developing a sustainable livelihood for the local community. Reference is made to the application dated 9 June 2008, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - project management, including public procurement, and reporting; - preparation of the Technical Design for the Restoration of Butchers’ Fortress, including archaeological survey; - restoration of the Butchers’ Fortress tower (building A); - construction of building B for demonstration workshops; - construction of building C for offices, exhibitions, a tourism information point and toilets; - courtyard and fencing works, as well as demolition of various structures in the yard area, and development of an amphitheatre; - purchase and installation of equipment for the multimedia room and demonstration workshops; - introduction in the European cultural circuit of the Butchers’ Fortress / exchange of knowledge and experiences with donor state partners; and - promotion / publicity activities. The Project Promoter is Maramures County Council. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with: the Baia Mare County Museum of History and Archaeology; the Baia Mare Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art; the Maramures County Center for Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture; Telemark County Council; the West Telemark Museum; and the Telemark University College, Faculty of Art, Folklore, and Pedagogy. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter shall provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
