RIRCE-RAA - Regional Registry of Children with Epilepsy in the RAA.

The purpose of the Project is to set up a regional Database (register) of Children with Epilepsy and other Neurodevelopmental diseases to improve the molecular and cytogenetics diagnosis, and to establish a plan for counselling and risk prevention, with the overall objective of improving prevention, treatment and counselling programmes for families with children suffering from epilepsy and other Neurodevelopmental diseases. Reference is made to the application, dated 10 May 2006 and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 19 January 2007, 21and 25 May 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - identification and consolidation of the network to identify children with epilepsy, - develop a database, - purchasing new equipment (Transcraneal sonography, reagents, video camera, digital recorder, two computers, fluorescent microscope, spectrophotometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography) - seminar to assess Project result, - publicity, - publishing a book on Children’s Epilepsy. The Project will result in a register of children with epilepsy and other neurodevelopmental disorders and in identification of new cases. The Project Promoter is the Servicio de Epidemiologia e Biologia Molecular (SEEBMO) of the Hospital de Santo Espírito de Angra do Heroísmo (HSEAH). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
