AWAKE of GREEN BIOTECH in Portugal: Waste elimination using genetically manipulated fungal species in an ionic liquid environment

The purpose of the Project is to reinforce Green-Biotech applications for solving real-world problems, with the overall objective of improving waste management routes at national and international level, set to different target companies. Reference is made to the application, dated 10 May 2006, and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 1 February 2007, 15 May 2007, 23 May 2007, 2 July 2007 and 9 July 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - IL (ionic liquid) synthesis; - IL characterisation; - IL species adoptions; - Purchase of equipment: Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and a PCR machine; - One patent in new processes; - One patent for synthesised ionic liquid; - Three PhD thesis; - Five scientific publications; - Whole genome assessment; - Waste elimination; - Knowledge management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the Instituto de Technologia Quimica e Biológica Universidade Nova de Lisboa (ITQB - UNL) a research institute belonging to the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The Project is undertaken in partnership with the Portuguese companies Gene Express Servicos Genómicos para Diagnóstico e Investigacao Lda and Intranstec. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 23.49 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
