The purpose of the Project is to improve the availability and quality of medical services provided by the 'Independent Public Specialist Health Care Centre' with respect to mother and childcare during pregnancy, labour and early childhood with the overall objective of reducing the incidence related to mother and child diseases and conditions in the district of Elblag. Reference is made to the application, dated 12 April 2007, and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: • creation of Medical centre; • purchase of medical equipment; • training and specialization for medical staff; • implementation of preventive examinations and promotion of health programmes; and • publicity and management. The Project Promoter is the 'Independent Public Specialist Health Care Centre- John Paul II Municipal Hospital' in Elblag. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the 'Norwegian Institute of Public Health'. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project costs.
