Raising of sewage treatment standards to meet the EU requirements through modernisation of a sewage treatment plant in Goldap.

The purpose of the Project is to improve public health and ecology of surface and ground water bodies, with the overall objective to ensure advanced wastewater treatment for Goldap Town agglomeration in accordance with Polish National requirements and EC regulations. Reference is made to the application, dated 4 September 2006, response to the request for additional information from the Focal Point dated 30 November 2006 and comments on the draft appraisal report dated 9 February 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Refurbishment and upgrading of a 1,800 m3/day mechanical and biological treatment plant - Implementation of tertiary treatment e.g. nutrient removal (biological denitrification and chemical precipitation of phosphorous); The Project Promoter is the Municipality of Goldap. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
