The purpose of the Project is to develop new methods enabling non-invasive diagnosis of respiratory diseases using mass spectrometry, with the overall objective of decreasing the mortality related to respiratory diseases among children and adults. Reference is made to the application dated 14 June 2006, and correspondence with the Focal Point dated 7 December 2006, 15 December 2006 and 23 January 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - sampling and analysis of exhaled breath condensates from children and adults; - implementation of the methods of eicosanoid measurement in exhaled breath condensates using the purchased equipment for mass spectrometry; - determination of the diagnostic value of the methods; asthma, COPD, intercellular lung diseases and lung cancer; - comparison of the new developed methods with the currently used methods for eicosanoid measurement; - purchase of equipment for liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry in tandem technique; and - purchase of equipment for the collection of exhaled breath condensates in children. The Project Promoter is Jagiellonian University Medical College. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland shall contribute with at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project cost.
