The purpose of the Project is conservation, renovation and adaptation to cultural purposes of fortification complexes surrounding the renaissance town Zamosc which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1992. The overall objective is protection and renewal of immovable cultural heritage in Poland. Reference is made to the application dated 14 March 2006 and letters dated 21 June 2006 and 23 October 2006 from the Focal Point as well as a letter dated 13 December 2006 from the Project Promoter through the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: • renovation of the defensive complex of Bastion No. 7, retrenchment, Lukasinski’s prison cell, Old Lwowska Gate and the curtain wall with the postern in order to locate a museum and exhibition halls; • renovation of New Lubelska Gate and curtain wall; • renovation of Old Lubelska Gate, curtain wall and the moat-protecting building. The complex will be turned into a theatre; • renovation of Szczebrzeska Gate, curtain wall and the Guardhouse. The complex will house exhibition rooms, tourist and cultural information centre and a supervision centre; • mordernisation of the Casemate belonging to Bastion No. 1 and developing the adjacent area; • instal monitoring systems to protect the historic buildings against any dangers; • promotional activities. The Project Promoter is the Town of Zamosc. The Ministry of Culture and Town of Zamosc shall provide at least 26,25 % of the estimated eligible project expenses.
