The purpose of the Project is to restore two historic buildings belonging to the Valmiera Museum complex and to expand the facilities of the old town, with the overall objective of ensuring accessibility of cultural venues to society and their sustainable use. Reference is made to the application form dated 29 July 2008, and to any correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Project management; - publicity activities; - drawing up of a development and regeneration plan for the Valmiera Old Town; - carrying out of a architectural survey of the buildings to be restored; - restoration and renovation of two museum buildings at Pilskalna 2: the family dwelling house and the Swiss style auxiliary house; - development of training programmes and training of local craftsmen and specialists, including study visit to Norway and acquisition of tools and equipment for training; - procurement of furniture and equipment for the museum depository, and tools and equipment for the training of the restorers; - construction of a jetty on the Gauja river bank; and - recreation of a historical medicinal herb garden. The Project promoter is the Valmiera Town Municipality. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with: Randsfjordmuseene Ltd., Norway; Vidzeme University College; the Ergli Secondary School; and Valmieras namsaimnieks. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
