Development of ports in Kurzeme region

The purpose of the Project is to improve the quality of port services in the Kurzeme region, with the overall objective to develop the ports of Kurzeme region to become attractive and economic sustainable gateways to the region for tourists and others. Reference is made to the application dated 9 January 2008 and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Project management, coordination and publicity; - Establishment a communication network and cooperation with other ports; - Investments in the ports (security equipment installation, automatic barrier, fenders for quayside, asphalt-paving, lighting of access road and deepening of the Pavilosta port aquatorium); - Experience and information exchange with other ports, including Norwegian ports; and - Development of research on regional development and public-private partnership financing opportunities in costal municipalities of Kurzeme. The Project Promoter is the Kurzeme Planning Region. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with Sakas local municipality, Roja local municipality, Free Port of Ventspils Authority, SIA ZEJA Rietumu krasts and "Livland Hotels" Ltd. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides 7.98 percent, Saka local municipality 7.9 percent, "Livland Hotels" Ltd.0.7 percent, SIA ZEJA Rietumu krasts 0.7 percent, Roja local municipality 0.7 percent, and Free Port of Ventspils Authority 3.1 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
