Surveillance measures for reduction of air pollution from exhaust fumes engines caused by tractor techniques in Latvia

The purpose of the Project is to develop a surveillance system of air pollution from tractors, with overall objective of protecting the environment through reducing the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere. Reference is made to the application, dated 9 June 2008 and all subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Analysis of existing situation; - Purchase of mobile diagnostic laboratories; - Development of methodology for reducing and controlling air pollution from exhaust fumes; - Implementation of pilot project (controlling 1000 tractors); - Development of suggestions for improving the national regulatory framework; - Management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the State Agency for Technical Surveillance. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the Certifying and Testing Centre. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
