Implementation of earth heat demonstration project and extension of experience in Riga region

The purpose of the Project is the thermal insulation and installation of geothermal heating system in the Katvari Special Boarding School in Limbaži district and promotion of geothermal heating method in Riga region, with the overall objective of protection of environment by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and implementation of renewable energy sources. Reference is made to the application dated 2 March 2007, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Installation of geothermal heating in the boarding school (heat pumps installation and replacement of pipes), - Reconstruction and thermal insulation of the building (including creation of new resting room for children in the under-roof space), - Establishment of education and information facilities and organisation of seminars related to the geothermal heating method, - Project management and publicity activities. The Project Promoter is Limbaži District Council. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the Katvari special boarding school (Latvia) and Radøy Kommune in Norway. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 37.35 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
