The purpose of the Project is to strengthen the policy-oriented dialogue between researchers and policymakers on regional development issues; with the overall objective to promote a balanced territorial development, fostering the research policy link on a local and regional level. Reference is made to the application dated 23 April 2007 and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: 1) Baseline needs assessment and introductory training seminars for policymakers; 2) Semi-annual discussions with policymakers, tied to the budget planning cycle; 3) Training seminars on writing policy briefs and semi-annual methodological seminars for researchers; 4) Internships for researchers; 5) Joint studies on topical regional development issues; 6) Publications and conferences; 7) Web database on regional development research; 8) Project management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the University of Latvia, Advanced Social and Political Research Institute (ASPRI). Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with Daugavpils Universitate (Daugavpils University), Liepajas Pedagogijas Akademija (Liepaja Academy of Pedagogy), Latvias Lauksamniecibas Universitate (Jelgava University) and Vidzemes Augstskola (Vidzeme University College). The Focal Point shall ensure that the University of Latvia provides at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
