The purpose of the Project is to set up a geographical monitoring and information system to mitigate the threat of landslides, with the overall objective of increasing the number of executives and authorities involved in civil protection in the Region of Peloponnisos. Reference is made to the application dated 21 November 2008 and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Research into pilot monitoring sites and scope; - Slope instability mapping and monitoring; - Design and development of geographical information system and related services; - User training in system operation, problem solving and taking measures to prevent landslides; and - Project management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the Region of Peloponnisos. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the Prefecture of Argolida, the Prefecture of Arkadia, the Prefecture of Korinthia, the Prefecture of Lakonia, the Prefecture of Messinia, the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens, and the University of Peloponnisos. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Hellenic Government provides at least 50 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
