The purpose of the Project is to establish a model as to better understand chlorine cycling and its effects in forest ecosystems with the overall objective of providing Czech authorities with environmental data for future policy development. Reference is made to the application, dated 14 August 2008, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: 1. Monitoring of chlorine in forest ecosystems, evaluation of monitoring data, 2. Laboratory chlorination experiments, 3. Modelling of the dynamics of organic chlorine in forest soils and water and its relationship with organic carbon, 4. Management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the Institute of Experimental Botany, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. Subject to national law, the project shall be implemented in partnership with the Czech Forestry and Game Management Research Institute and the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
