Optimization of Respiratory Distress Syndrome Treatment in Very Low Birth Weight Newborns

The purpose of the Project is to decrease the incidence of serious degrees of chronic lung diseases and asthma in very low birth weight newborns by creating a complex monitoring system for children with respiratory distress syndrome at the Institute for the Care of Mother and Child in Prague, with the overall objective to reduce the morbidity and mortality of newborns in the Czech Republic. Reference is made to the application dated 14 August 2008 and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - purchase and installation of devices for mechanical lung ventilation with volume guaranteed ventilation and of other types of necessary equipment; - purchase and installation of incubators for very low birth weight newborns; - purchase and installation of the central monitoring systems; - project management and promotion. The Project Promoter is the Institute for the Care of Mother and Child (Ústav pro péci o matku a díte). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Ministry of Health provides at least 15 percent of the total estimated eligible Project costs.
