Incidence of metabolic syndrome - its prevention by timely diagnostics and treatment of child obesity

The purpose of the Project is to produce scientific research studies on the prevalence of obesity in the Czech adolescent population to be used as a basis for the development of a national strategy by the relevant policy makers and set up a network of specialized experts cooperating in the obesity treatment and management in the target group population, with the overall objective to improve the health status of young population in the Czech Republic. Reference is made to the application dated 11 March 2008 and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - mapping current approaches to child obesity diagnosis and treatment; - carry out the epidemiological study in adolescent population; - intervention study and recommendation for diagnostic and treatment procedures; - expert education and promoting a network of child obesity treatment specialists; - purchase of equipment and of the mini van; - management and publicity. The Project Promoter is the Institute of Endocrinology. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
