The purpose of the Project is to develop and implement a management model for biodiversity conservation in the Strandja Mountains, with the overall objective of contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the Strandja Mountains. Reference is made to the application dated 26 April 2008, and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: 1. Creation of a GIS database and monitoring system for biodiversity and socio-economic characteristics. 2. Conducting of a sociological study and development of communication methods and strategy. 3. Development of an educational programme and conducting of training. 4. Development, implementation and promotion of the "Strandja" label. 5. Implementation of model projects for enhancement of priority species and habitats. 6. Project management and publicity activities. The Project Promoter is the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation. Subject to national law, the Project shall be implemented in partnership with the The National "Man and Biosphere" Committee of the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW), the National Forestry Agency - NP Strandja Directorate and the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter shall provide at least 3.6 percent, the partner National "Man and Biosphere" under the Bulgarian Academy of Science at least 1.9 percent, and the partner National Forestry Agency - NP Strandja Directorate at least 5.8 percent of the estimated eligible project costs.
