The purpose of the Project is to develop the National Biodiversity Monitoring System, with the overall objective of increasing the effectiveness of the management within the area of biodiversity surveillance. Reference is made to the application dated 24 April 2008, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: 1: Upgrading and updating the existing Regional databases for biodiversity monitoring. 2: Development of a National Biodiversity Database (NBDB) for biodiversity monitoring. 3: Development of a system for displaying the data to the public, and communication with the external contributors to the NBDB via internet. 4: Synchronizing the central NBDB with existing databases (links with 6 other databases) and testing of software products. 5: Purchase of software, hardware and technical equipment. 6: Project management and publicity activities (including tender and procurement procedures and training of the users of the NBDB). The Project Promoter is the Executive Environment Agency at the Ministry of Environment and Water (ExEA). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Bulgarian state budget provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
