The purpose of the Project is to carry out archaeological research and preservation works related to the Thracian Fortress and the Basilica in the village of Gela, with the overall objective of protection and preservation of cultural heritage in the Western Rhodopes region. Reference is made to the application dated 24 April, 2008 and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - archeological excavation and research of two sites in Gela: the Thracian Fortress and the Byzantine Basilica in the village of Gela, including preparation of the project for conservation activities; - preparation and planning of preservation for the Byzantine Basilica; - conservation and preservation works to the Byzantine Basilica; - public awareness and publicity; - project management The Project Promoter is the Foundation named Development of Industrial, Cultural and National Heritage. Subject to national law, the Project shall be carried out in partnership with the National Archeological Institute and The Institute of Thracology in Bulgaria. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 10 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
