Restoration and conservation of Shumen Fortress – cradle of the civilizations who lived in Bulgaria

The purpose of the Project is the restoration of the Shumen fortress walls, improvement of infrastructure and installation of artistic lighting, with the overall objective of preservation of cultural and historical heritage in Shumen. Reference is made to the application, dated 24 April 2008, and any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - restoration and conservation of fortress walls; - development of walking paths within the fortress complex; - establishment of artistic lighting; - improvement of tourist infrastructure and purchase of equipment for temperature and humidity control and turnstiles; - publicity activities; - project management. The Project Promoter is the municipality of Shumen. The Focal Point shall ensure that at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost are provided from the state budget.
