Research and development project aiming at establishing the competence base for promoting environmental friendly tourism in the Danube delta using the beluga sturgeon as a flagship speciesExpected results:1. to investigate the impacts of the present sturgeon fishery ban on local communities along the Danube2. to research and promote nature tourism as a sustainable alternative income to sturgeon fishing.3. to enhance knowledge and understanding of the biology and behaviour of beluga sturgeon to maximise the tourism potential of this species.4. to build competence and improve practice of environmental tourism in the Tulcea region of the Lower Danube.5. to provide a model for the development of sustainable, nature tourism in Romania.
