The purpose of the Project is to identify flood risk areas and inform the general public and professionals about flood prevention measures, with the overall objective of improving flood protection in the Hornád river basin. Reference is made to the application dated 17 March 2006, as well as additional information sent by the Focal Point on 28 February, 22 March, 26 March and 5 April 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - collection of data allowing for analysis of the current situation of Hornád river basin, elaboration of maps, creating digital models and cross-sections of watercourses and the area liable to flooding, collection of hydrological data from the monitoring net on Hornád river basin, cataloguing in the GIS; - creation of hydrologic-hydrodynamic mathematical models (1D, with 2D in some localities) for a proposed flood-protection system for description flood flows, identification of risk areas, proposal of solutions for flood-protection of risk areas; - processing of data for spatial planning, emergency and evacuation, processing of materials for action plans for environment preservation, proposal and approval of strategic plan of the basin's protection against floods, proposal for emergency management and evacuation plans; - quality assurance during project implementation and public information activities on the Hornád river basin flood-prevention activities. The Project Promoter is the self-governing region of Košice. The Project is implemented in partnership with the self-governing region of Prešov. The Focal Point shall ensure that the state budget of the Slovak Republic will provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible project cost.
