The purpose of the Project is to increase the number of Cord Blood Units (CBU) stored in national and international databases, with the overall objective to increase haematopoietic stem cell transplantations. Reference is made to the application dated 23 March 2006 and additional information sent by the Focal Point on 26 April, 7 May, 7 June, 3 and 23 July, and 15 August 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - recruitment of obstetricians and organisation of workshops and training in cord blood donation and collection; - preparation and dissemination of information brochures and leaflets on cord blood medical use and storage systems for professionals, the general public, and future mothers as potential cord blood donors; - purchase of laboratory and storage equipment, purchase of a utility vehicle, and purchase of computers to improve the collection, treatment and storage of cord blood units, and to ensure continuous update and maintenance of databases; - purchase of materials, chemicals, mediums and other laboratory consumables used for processing cord blood and implementation of all accompanying safety and hygiene measures; and - provision of cryoconservation and long term storage conditions for cord blood units. The Project Promoter is Eurocord-Slovakia. The Focal Point shall ensure that the state budget of the Slovak Republic will provide at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides the remaining co-financing amount, but not less than 20.5 per cent of the estimated Project eligible costs.
