The purpose of the project is to restore the ancient hydraulic systems of 12 gardens and parks spread throughout Portugal, with the overall objective of preserving landscape art and hydraulic systems where they are a structural and defining part of the gardens' physical and intangible identity and to achieve the optimisation of available natural resources. Reference is made to the application, dated 10 May 2006, and to correspondence with the Focal Point dated 06 December 2006, 16 March 2007 and 20 March 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - study and analysis of the gardens, including historical research, bio-physical analysis, and topographical and photographical surveys; - survey of the gardens' hydraulic systems; - development of a documentation database for the gardens; - preparation of plans and drawings for the works to be performed; - tendering and selection of construction company; - implementation of identified works to restore the hydraulic systems, walls and paths of the gardens; and - publicity activities. The Project Promoter is the Portuguese Historical Gardens and Sites Association. The Project shall be implemented in partnership with Coimbra University, Fronteira and Alorna Houses Foundation, Sociedade Agrícola Sagrial Lda, Quinta das Lágrimas Sociedade Imobiliária e de Construção SA, Salbat – Empreendimentos Túristicos SA, Sociedade Agrícola Casa de Juste SA, Ameixoeira-Empreendimentos Imobiliários, Lda, and the Bom Successo Convent. The Project partners are eight of the individual garden owners. The Project Promoter represents the remaining four garden owners. Each garden owner provides a financial contribution to the association for the co-financing. Further information on activities and results is provided in the Project Implementation Plan (Annex II).
