The purpose of the Project is to verify the technical conditions for the implementation of a full scale water treatment, with the overall objective of improving water treatment in Portugal and Norway. Reference is made to the application, dated 10 May 2006 and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 13 October 2006, 12 and 28 March, 23 and 30 April, 11 and 16 May, 8 June, 20 July, 7 and 8 and 21 August 2007. The completed project shall include the following activities and results: - Validation of microbiological and analytical methods; - Optimisation of the nanofiltration process; - Optimisation of final disinfection using chlorination and chloramination; - Optimisation of UV direct and indirect photolysis; - Implementation and validation of pilot scale water treatment plant (WTP); - Production of operating guidelines for water treatment plants (WTP); - Wide dissemination of the results of the Project through workshops and seminars, and publicity measures in Portugal and Norway. The Project Promoter is the Institute for Biological Experiments and Technology (IBET). The Project Promoter will implement the Project in partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim (NTNU) and Empresa Portuguesa das Aguas Levrea, S.A (EPAL), and in cooperation with a public water utility supplier (Aguas do Algarve) and the Municipality of Almada. The Focal Point shall ensure that at least 40 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost is provided as follows: 14.35 percent by the Project Promoter, 12.35 percent by EPAL and 13.3 percent by the Municipality of Almada .
