The purpose of the Project is new technology for conserving historic textile objects and paintings on canvas, with the overall objective of improved protection and conservation of historic textile objects and paintings on canvas. Reference is made to the application dated 11 April, 2007 and to any subsequent correspondance with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: • Development and testing of a prototype system for strain monitoring in historic textiles; • Test of specimens imitating real museum objects and development of a conservation method; • Development of a data processing system adapted to systems monitoring environmental conditions operating in museums; • Strain measurements on the models of objects under museum conditions; • Strain measurements in selected museum objects, in real – world conditions of storage, expositions and transportation; • Assessment of various methods and techniques of conservation and exposition of textiles as well as strategies of improving the conditions of their protection; • Purchase of equipment; • Dissemination of the results; and • Management and promotional activities. The Project Promoter is the Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University (IFUJ). Subject to national law the Project shall be implemented in partnership with one Polish partner; the National Museum in Krakow and one Norwegian partner: the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
