Capacity building of planning an project development in Kurzeme planning region

The purpose of the Project is to increase the administrative capacity on regional spatial planning and project management in the Kurzeme Planning Region, with the overall objective of decreasing socioeconomic disparities among municipalities of the region. Reference is made to the application, dated 27 August 2007 and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 8 October 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Project management and coordination; - streamlining and elaboration of strategic spatial planning documents of local municipalities; - organization of training for specialists (in spatial planning, project management including public procurement, etc) of local municipalities of the Kurzeme Planning Region; - preparation of project applications for funding from the EU Structural Funds and other financial investment sources; - updating of the Kurzeme Planning Region Action Plan; - organization of exchange visits to Norway (Østfold County) for sharing of experience, and; - publicity activities and preparation of materials. The Project Promoter is the Kurzeme Planning Region. The Project shall be implemented in partnership with the city councils of Ventepils and Liepaja, the Kuldiga Town Council, the Liepaja district, the Saldus district, the Talsi district and the Ventepils district. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter and its above-mentioned partners provide at least 15 percent of the total eligible Project costs.
