In the view of the increasingly stringent requirements on Greenhouse gas inventory and projections reporting, Lithuania seeks, in corporation with Norway, to implement the project which aims to improve Quality assurance/Quality control procedures, documenting, archiving system, data collection in land use, land use change and forestry sectors, to improve Greenhouse gas projections reporting system, to organize experts training as well as identify additional needs to implement newly adopted Regulation (EU) No 525/2013.

Summary of project results

After ratification of the United Nations Framework on Climate change convention (UNFCCC) and Kyoto protocol (KP) Lithuania is obliged periodically update the national inventories (NIR) of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of all greenhouse gases (GHG) not controlled by Montreal Protocol. It is defined that the information presented in the NIR should be consistent, comparable, complete, accurate and transparent. The need of the exchange of experience with experts of other countries became of the most importance for implementing new guidelines properly. In view of the increasingly stringent requirements on GHG inventory and projections reporting, Lithuania, in corporation with Norway, while implementing the project, improved Quality assurance/Quality control procedures, documenting, archiving system, data collection in land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) and KP-LULUCF sectors, also improved GHG projections reporting system, organized trainings for experts.

Summary of bilateral results

During implementation of the Project partner from Norway shared experience in the field of Greenhouse gas monitoring. The participation of the partner contributed significantly to the achievement of project results, especially by improving Lithuania’s experts’ competencies in field of Greenhouse gas monitoring.
