The purpose of the Project is to improve the understanding of how changes in land use in agricultural areas influence the emissions of greenhouse gases; methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), with the overall objective of reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases in Estonia. Reference is made to the application dated 2 May 2007, and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 23 May and 29 May 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Selection and characterisation of field sites; - Field measurements of greenhouse gas fluxes; - Laboratory incubations with soils from field sites; - Geographical Information System (GIS)-based scenario analysis of possible mitigation strategies; - Project publicity including publications. The Project Promoter is The Institute of Geography, University of Tartu, Estonia. The Project Promoter implements the Project in partnership with BioForsk - Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research (Norway). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
