The purpose of the Project is to establish a sustainable model-supported groundwater monitoring network, with the overall objective of ensuring good groundwater quality, sufficient groundwater resources and good access to groundwater-related information in Ida-Virumaa county. Reference is made to the application dated 29 August 2006 and subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point dated 14 June 2007, 25 July 2007, 8 August 2007 and 29 August 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Review of the existing groundwater situation; - Creation of a sustainable model-supported, predictive modelling, groundwater monitoring network; - Monitoring transport of contaminants and flood risks; - Development of regional and local groundwater models that can be used for planning, training and demonstration purposes; - Training of officials, entrepreneurs and students through workshops and seminars; - Project management, dissemination and transfer of results. The Project Promoter is the Estonian Ministry of Environment. The Project shall be implemented in partnership with the University of Tartu, the Institute of Geology at Tallin University of Technology (IGTUT) and the Geological Survey of Estonia (EGS). The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
